The stone cut at the studio comes from the refuse heap of the Granite Shop in Sedgwick Maine.

Steve Thoner, the owner, has collected hundreds of slabs of stone from all over the planet. He cuts them into kitchen and bathroom countertops and what remains goes to the heap. It is worth a visit just to admire his outdoor geological natural history museum / mineralogical art gallery. You will find granite, marble, gneiss, breccia, quartzite, and more.

We have an understanding; I do my part to let the world know about his fine enterprise and in return, he reserves some of his best waste for me.
